BATONER is a knitwear brand launched in 2013 by Okuyama Meriyasu in Sagae City, Yamagata Prefecture—a region known as the “holy land of knitwear” due to its rich history of wool production and craftsmanship since the Meiji Restoration. Okuyama Meriyasu collaborates closely with skilled artisans in spinning and dyeing factories to create high-quality, enduring knitwear.

A hallmark of BATONER is its focus on classic, timeless pieces that can be passed down through generations, crafted using traditional techniques that are increasingly rare in Japan. The SIGNATURE series, featuring a distinctive ribbed pattern developed through years of expertise, exemplifies this philosophy. Rib knitting, a widely recognized technique, varies greatly in quality depending on the maker. BATONER addresses this by using original, pilling-resistant yarn and shaping each part separately, resulting in garments that maintain their shape and offer a comfortable, stress-free fit.
