POPEYE Magazine June 2026 Issue

Seeing the words "Made in U.S.A." evokes a slight sense of excitement.

The slightly stiff, rough texture of the fabric, the slightly rough stitching—there's an unchanging romance to the sturdy, no-nonsense quality of American-made goods.

It all started with the "Made in U.S.A. catalog" released in 1975.

Then, in 1976, through the West Coast feature in the inaugural issue of "POPEYE" magazine, we learned about functional wear and bright, unpretentious fashion.

Everyone became captivated by American-made products, and eventually, "Americana" was born.

For the historical details, please see the illustration on this page, but the point is, elements like military, workwear, sportswear, and outdoor wear are no longer something special; they've naturally become indispensable to our style.

That's why I want to think a little about Made in U.S.A. and Americana.

Oh, and I'm not saying you have to wear all American-made clothing or anything so rigid.
