Unlikely N-1 QUILT JACKET

This quilted jacket is based on the 1940s US Navy deck jacket but has been lightened by modifying the internal quilted structure and lining. It features a striking contrast between its substantial, rugged appearance and its surprisingly lightweight feel, achieved through a combination of high-density back-satin fabric and a lining quilted with thick nylon yarn. The wind-resistant ribbed cuffs are made of cotton. Additionally, the collar—originally made of wool pile—has been updated to corduroy for a softer, more comfortable feel against the neck. The material is a reproduction of the high-density cotton back-satin fabric developed by the US military in the 1950s for extreme cold-weather gear. This fabric offers the smooth, refined look characteristic of satin while delivering excellent abrasion and tear resistance; its high-density weave provides wind resistance and effective heat retention.
